Overcome the fear of the dentist

Overcome the fear of the dentist- Sedation

The patient has the right to receive treatment without suffering from anxiety or pain.

Conscious sedation, called anxiolysis, provides all patients, even anxious and phobic patients, with a high level of tranquility, also increasing their safety and well-being in cases where it is preferable to avoid stress. Sedation therefore allows patients to have a pleasant and positive experience, even in long or invasive procedures.

This holistic approach has many benefits that are apparent from the first visit and continue into the post-operative period.

Thus, a climate of well-being and safety nurtures a serene and peaceful working environment for all.

Sedation has benefits that can positively impact your experience.

Bring you great tranquility and well-being during treatment:

  • Create a stress-free environment that prevents alterations in blood pressure, heart rate and blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of complications and making the treatment safer, even for people with delicate health conditions.
  • Allowing you to finally undertake treatments that you have long put off for fear of the procedure.

The different types of sedation

Our approach to sedation is based on the mental ability of our care team and we implement it through different techniques:

Nitrous oxide sedation

Intravenous sedation

General anesthesia

Nitrous oxide sedation

For lighter procedures with maximum comfort and for children, we offer sedation with nitrous oxide, the laughing gas.
The administration of nitrous oxide by inhalation is comfortable, it makes the dentist’s maneuvers more tolerable and, at the end of the treatment, it only takes a few seconds to be back to full health, without any after-effects: it’s wonderful!

Intravenous sedation

It consists of administering relaxing drugs through an infusion (nothing more than a blood sample).
The advantage is that you can administer a relaxant that detaches you from your surroundings: you maintain control, you remain awake but time passes without you noticing.

General anesthesia

This is a “stronger” approach and we reserve it for very specific situations, preferring to use gentler methods, as long as they are adapted to the patient’s case.

The choice of sedation method is made with you, as our goal is to provide you with maximum comfort, confidence and safety.

We could write at length on the subject of sedation, but we suggest instead that you come to the office so that we can discuss it face to face and you will be reassured.

F.A.Q.

Can sedation be used for all patients?

Yes, sedation can be used for all patients who feel strong discomfort to undergo dental treatment, whether they are in good health or have health problems compensated by treatment, on which the dental session could generate strong psycho-physical stress and a sudden worsening of the general conditions, with potential danger.

What are the risks of sedation?

The only risks of sedation are related to a possible and rare intolerance to the sedatives used.
Apart from this eventuality, sedation allows us to reduce the risks for the patient and to increase his safety. We know that anxiety, stress and pain are the triggers for the majority of adverse events that can occur in the dental office, such as hypertensive crisis, cardiac arrest or heart attack.

During sedation, we continuously monitor the patient’s general condition (pressure, heart rate and rhythm, oxygenation level) with a device and an infusion to administer emergency medication, such as in case of an allergic reaction.
